Campaign Canada Features Humanity’s Rebrand for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Humanity’s rebrand for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights has been featured in Campaign Canada, highlighting the strategy, behavioural science, and creative thinking behind the transformation.

The rebrand marks a significant evolution for the Museum, shifting it from being primarily associated with its iconic architecture to becoming a catalyst for empathy, participation, and human connection beyond its walls.

Developed by Humanity in partnership with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the new identity reflects the idea that engagement with human rights should not begin and end with a museum visit, but extend into everyday life.

The visual identity introduces expansive “rays” inspired by optimism, momentum, and collective action. The updated logo evolves the Museum’s architectural form into a more symbolic expression designed to radiate outward into the broader community.

The rebrand was informed by behavioural science and semiotic research conducted in partnership with Research Strategy Group. The work identified two key emotional drivers shaping how people relate to human rights: connection and defiance. These insights helped shape a brand system designed to balance empathy, resilience, and action.

“Rebranding the world’s first museum dedicated to human rights doesn’t come with a playbook,” said Ryan Hughes, Chief Strategy Officer at Humanity. “What we did have was the right toolkit—grounded in behavioural science and a deep understanding of how early experiences with human rights shape the motivations to support and advance them later in life.”

The flexible identity system is designed to scale across exhibitions, educational programming, campaigns, and digital experiences while reinforcing the Museum’s mission to inspire reflection, dialogue, and change.
