Happy Roots’ “What If?” Campaign Earns National Industry Coverage
Happy Roots Foundation’s new “What If?” campaign, developed by Humanity, is gaining national attention for bringing infant and early childhood mental health into the conversation in a more approachable and human way.
The integrated public awareness campaign and its digital platform, LifetimeOfDifference.ca, have recently been featured by Applied Arts, Campaign Canada and strategy. The coverage explores the insight behind the campaign, its emotionally grounded creative approach and the digital experience designed to help parents and caregivers move from uncertainty toward understanding and support.
Starting an important conversation earlier
Mental health doesn’t begin in adulthood. For babies and young children, it can appear in everyday behaviours—from big emotions and disrupted sleep to separation difficulties and persistent worry.
Parents and caregivers often notice these behaviours long before they understand them through the lens of mental health. Without that context, concerns can be dismissed as a phase, personality trait or parenting challenge.
The campaign was created to help close that gap.
Grounded in stakeholder consultation, research and focus groups, “What If?” reflects the questions already running through caregivers’ minds:
What if this isn’t just a phase?
What if I’m overreacting?
What if it’s my fault?
What if getting help helps us both?
Rather than quieting those questions, the campaign uses them as a starting point—gradually shifting the narrative from fear and self-doubt toward understanding, possibility and action.
At the heart of the work is a simple message: Early support can make a lifetime of difference.
Extending the campaign from awareness to action
The campaign comes to life through a hero film, brand identity, social content and LifetimeOfDifference.ca, a custom digital experience developed around the real questions parents and caregivers ask.
Visitors can enter a question in their own words or explore concerns shared by others. Behind the experience is a custom AI-powered search layer that considers the emotional and situational context of each question to surface relevant, trusted information.
The platform was designed to make a serious and sometimes intimidating subject feel warm, welcoming and easier to explore—helping caregivers take a first step without needing to have all the answers.
